About Amy
What’s the little ditty on Amy?
Well, there is nothing standard about anyone is there? Amy is an Arizona native, born in Tucson and raised in Carefree/Cave Creek. She grew up active in sports and horsemanship, loved reading and anything creative writing in high school, and did her best not to pay attention in math; although her favorite teacher of all time is her calculus teacher from junior year. She attended the University of Arizona her freshman and sophomore years, and graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University in 2005. Amy says it was the perfect outcome, because her cheer schedule for collegiate sports goes like this: U of A for basketball and softball, and ASU for football and baseball. It’s a win-win. While at ASU she was part of the Dugout Devils, an all girls promotional team for baseball, was part of PRSSA and started the first agency on campus with a friend of hers.
Today, Amy is the Interactive Communications Manager at a content marketing firm in Phoenix. There she oversees the PR, crisis communications, SEO and social media efforts for a variety of clientele. She’s a mentor of new Pros for PRSA/PRSSA, and works with the communications team at American Marketing Association. Living in the far west Valley has afforded her plenty of time for self reflection, and an increased awareness of how highways are constantly worked on but never completed. In her spare time she’s taken up light running with her dog Derby. She calls it light running because she gets bored while running and refuses to challenge herself for anything beyond a 10k. She’s also completed nearly 70 hours of bikram yoga, and is preparing for a summer of sand volleyball tournaments.
What’s her favorite color?
Purple, purple is a color that has always threaded itself within Amy’s life for as long as she can remember. What’s interesting is that she doesn’t wear much purple, but rather blues, grays and reds. Her barn equipment always had purple accents (ask her about those teal and purple leg wrappings for her ponies); her smaller plants in her front yard are intentionally purple, and her office wall’s have always been purple (if she was allowed custom paint). Amy can’t tell you where the passion of purple came from other than she aligns it to authentic power and complete passion.
What was Amy’s first job out of college?
If she told you it was hosting media trips and celebrity trips to Mexico every few weeks, would you believe her? How about if the celebs were not so A-listers like David Fumero and Erin Moran? Well it’s true. Before she even graduated college, Amy was working for a local Phoenix agency spearheading the Media Relations efforts for American developers who developed master-planned communities throughout Mexico. Her favorite spot? Acapulco tops the list because of the Sinatra-flavor culture and lifestyle. However, one of her favorite memories was spending time in the kitchen of El Dorado Ranch in the Baja.
“I had the fortune of being introduced to renowned Chef Martin Colman in San Felipe. He would hang out in the kitchen after most events had finished for the night and taught me how to prep the authentic Caesar salad, and a few fresh fish dishes. Chef Colman fascinated me with his stories of owning the Jockey Club restaurant and the celebrities that visited, to the history behind certain culinary dishes.”
What’s her most favorite possession?
Amy’s most prized possession is her grandfather’s typewriter that sits in her home office.
“When my grandparents passed away, and the family was helping get things in order, I had only one request, and that was for his typewriter. I remember vividly through my summers and weekends with them, hearing the clicks of the keys as he’d type family memories, essays on apes (his favorite animal) from books he’d read, and seeing each poem he wrote or copied slip from the annual birthday card he’d send with my grammy. It’s one of those possessions that have no real value in dollars, but is most valuable for the memories it holds.”
What’s on her iPod?
Everything! Eminem, JLo, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, Justo Llamas, Gary Alan, Britney Spears, NKOTB, Swayze, Rod Stewart. Practically any song that strikes or can mimic the emotions and feelings she has at any time.
